Major Price Drop for .CN Domains |
Starting Monday, 19 March, the German domain registrar domaindiscount24.com offers new one year .CN domain registrations at a price of only 3.28 Euro (3.90 Euro inkl. VAT). This special promotion ends April 30.
domaindiscount24.com is part of the global reseller network of Key-Systems, recently awarded as top European .CN registrar 2006.
Increased marketing activities are the first step in a broad cooperation between Key-Systems and CNNIC, the Chinese registry. This cooperation will result in further .CN specials after the current promotion periode.
In 2006 .CN was not only the fastest growing ccTLD but with over 1.8 million registrations it is now ranked as the 4th largest ccTLD in the world.
As the number of Internet users within China continues to grow, it is becoming more important for companies and existing registrants in other TLDs to protect their trademarks, products or service names in the .CN TLD.
With the current promotion, domaindiscount24 supports this development. ASCII-code domains are part of the promotion, also containing third level domains like COM.CN, NET.CN, ORG.CN and all 34 regional .CN extensions (BJ.CN, SH.CN, ZH.CN etc.)

The demand for .IN Domains is still unbroken |
Germany is still the # 1 country infront of .U.S. for .IN Domain Registrations outside of India, resulting in a total market share of approx. 10.8%.
.IN the official ccTLD of India recently liberalized their registration policies allowing anybody worldwide to register .IN (co.in, org.in, net.in, firm.in, gen.in and ind.in) Domains. The relaunch of .IN with the new policies commenced in January with a 21 day Sunrise-Period, whereas interested parties could register their trademarks. During this so-called Sunrise Period more than 3.400 Domains were registered successfully.
The first domain registered in Germany during the Sunrise Period was "Bertelsmann.in" and the first domain registered during the "Landrush" (live registration) period on February 16th 2005 was "furniture.in".
More than 52% of all .IN domains registered so far, were during the first 24 hours of the registry opening their gateway to the public on February 16th 2005. Since then (as of March 13th 2005) more than 9.500 .IN domains were registered by German registrants. Afilias Inc,. the registry service provider for .IN, has counted individual registrants from more than 108 countries worldwide.
Even with the successful launch of .IN and the fact that 52% of all domains registered so far were executed on the first day, the demand for .IN Domains still remains unbroken.

.IN registrations are now LIVE |
Congratulations INRegistry and Afilias!
Key-Systems received the accreditation for .IN exactly one day before the registry went "live". Punctually on February 16th 2005 early in the morning .IN went "live", meaning .IN Domains (.IN, co.IN, net.IN, org.IN, firm.IN, gen.IN and ind.IN) can now be registered immediately in real-time.
Key-Systems submitted all of thier collected pre-registrations and was able to achieve an overall success rate of more than 60%.
Afilias Inc. the official registry of .INFO and NIXI (National Internet eXchange of India) have been working closely together over the last weeks to allow these "live" registrations.
Altogether this has been a great success fo the country-code Top-Level-Domain .IN and will boost India to be one of the most popular ccTLDs worldwide.

IN - India goes "live" on February 16th 2005 |

.CN IDNs will become available as of January 17th 2005 |
Internationalized domain names (IDNs) represent the next step in the evolution of the Web. They enable domain names to be spelled with non-English, non-ASCII character sets, and they hold unlimited possibilities for companies with global aspirations.
Therefore CNNIC (the official registry for .CN Domains) and NeuLevel Inc. will officially launch .CN IDNs on January 17th 2005. IDNs will only be launched for chinese characters and beneath .CN directly. You will NOT be able to register IDNs beneath com.CN, net.CN or org.CN.
China and the Asia-Pacific in general have been the fastest growing markets in the world and are expected to continue to experience explosive growth in the years to come. Chinese is also one of the most spoken languages in the world because of its large population. If your customers seek to do business online in China (and reach over 56 million Chinese-speaking consumers in the Asia-Pacific region's most
dynamic marketplace), urge them to register and use IDNs in the .CN domain!
Key-Systems is already accepting Pre-Registrations of .CN IDNs. To learn more adn pre-register your .CN IDNs today, please proceed to domaindiscount24.com.

Unlike the third level (Name.com.SG), the second-level will not specify the category of applicants that can register the .sg names.
Applicants, who are overseas-based, will need to have a local presence. This service is provided by Key-Systems GmbH d/b/a domaindiscount24.com automatically when registering a .SG domain, so therefore the domain is bascially unrestricted.
*Sunrise Period (Sept. 15th 2004 to Nov. 1st 2004): During this period, SGNIC will accept applications through its accredited registrars for the 2nd level names from new applicants, as well as existing registrants of 3rd level names. SGNIC will accord priority to groups of applicants in the following order: registered trademark holders; unregistered well-known mark holders; government departments/agencies; existing 3rd level registrants; and new applicants. For this purpose, applicants are required to fill in a Declaration Form to declare their status and to send it to their appointed registrars when making the applications. To do so, please follow these *instructions*. Applicants, who wish to take advantage of having higher priority of being an existing 3rd level name registrant, are advised to register their 3rd level domain names by 6 Sep 2004. During the Sunrise Period, we will charge 79 Euro (91,64 Euro incl. VAT) for each .SG domain registration per year.
*.SG goes "live" on January 3rd 2005: As of January 3rd 2005, applications received will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Any name that is not taken up during the 'Sunrise Period' will be made available to the public for registration from this date onwards. .SG domain registrations will then be charged 59 Euro (68,44 Euro incl. VAT) per year.

Relaunch of Domains.cn |
Last year on June 20th 2003 we officially launched the Website www.Domains.cn, as Key-Systems had wanted to inform our customers about the Chinese Domain Market. Since then the website has been a great success and the feedback we had received has been amazing.
As you may have noticed, we have added three further Asian country-code-Top-Level-Domains, .JP (Japan), .TW (Taiwan - com.TW, org.TW and idv.TW) and just recently com.SG (Singapore) and therefore we have modified the Domain to "AsianDomains.CN, - AsianDomains.JP, AsianDomains.com.TW or AsianDomains.com.SG".
In the future you will be able to find detailed information on the Internet Development, as well as Domain development within these countries.

.JP - Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun |
Key-Systems GmbH has just recently added .JP the ccTLD (country code Top-Level-Domain) of Japan to www.domaindiscount24.com. As .JP is an unrestricted domain, it can be registered by any individual or corporation
worldwide within seconds.
The growth of JP Domains in the past has been quite amazing. Until 2000 there was basically no mentionable growth at all, as you were only able to register third-level domains under co.jp. Unrestricted second-level .JP
Domains were released in May 2001. At that point in time the demand for .JP began to increase, as .JP domains were no longer restricted. In November 2003 a total of 237,735 Domains had been registered beneath .JP. If you also
include third-level domain registrations (co.JP and or.JP), then a total of 543,000 Domains had been registered.
"We are proud to add yet another Asian ccTLD to the TLD-Portfolio of Key-Systems, as figures in the past have shown, that this will be the market of tomorrow. Internet growth within the Asian Market, especially China, Japan and Taiwan, but also Korea is enormous and therefore Key-Systems will look to become accredited for further Asian TLDs during 2004." says Robert Birkner, Key Account Manager of Key-Systems GmbH.
domaindiscount24.com now does not only offer CN (com.CN, net.CN, org.CN) registrations, but also .JP registrations as well as pre-registrations for .TW (com.TW, org.TW and idv.TW).

Key-Systems at the 2004 Annual CNNIC Registrars Conference in Sanya, Hainan Island, China |

The annual CNNIC Registrars Conference took place this year in Sanya on Hainan Island from February 26th 2004 until February 28th 2004.
The Hainan Island is located of the South Coast of Hainan and to the East of Vietnam. As Europe's #1 Registrar for .CN Domains and #2 worldwide beneath the NeuLevel accredited 55 Registrars Key-Systems took the opportunity of participating in this registrar conference in order to inform themselves on
the future happenings within the Asian market, as well as touch base with many domestic registrars.
Participants of the meeting were:
- approx. 30 domestic registrars
- representative from NeuLevel the exclusive distribution partner of CNNIC
- representative of Tucows, a NeuLevel accredited .CN Registrar
- representative from Key-Systems, a NeuLevel accredited .CN Registrar
The major meetings took place on February 26th 2004.
Mr. William W. Mao (Mao Wei) Director of CNNIC officially opened the meeting by providing background information on the past
year and the business relationship with NeuLevel, the exclusive Registry Gateway Partner of CNNIC.

Director William W. Mao |
Walter Wu, Assistant of Director General |
Towards the end of 2002 CNNIC liberalized their policies for the registrations of Domains beneath com.CN, net.CN and org.CN. NeuLevel had then started accrediting international registrars prior to .CN going live in the Third-Level in December 2002. Punctually on
December 15th 2002 NeuLevel successfully launched .CN in the Third-Level to the international community.
2003 was most important for the country-code Top-Level-Domain .CN, as CNNIC together with NeuLevel had planned the introduction of .CN in the Second-Level, meaning that companies, organisations and corporations worldwide could secure their trademarks, company
names, products, ...etc. beneath a .CN Domains, e.g. www.ibm.cn or www.vw.cn. On March 17th 2004 .CN was successfully launched internationally.
.CN in the second level has been proven a great success, as CNNIC had more than 158,000 CN Domains registered alone in 2003. Until February 29th 2004 CNNIC had a total of 168.067 CN Second Level Domains registered with an average growth rate of approx. 3 - 4 % each month.
In December 2003 CNNIC stated the total number of registered domains to be 337.066. This figure includes domains under .com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn, .gov.cn, .ac.cn, edu.cn and .cn. CNNIC was able to achieve an average monthly growth rate of 6,30 %.
Due to the latest discussions at CNNIC and NeuLevel, this growth rate is bound to increase over the next months and especially with the introduction of further products for the Internet Community worldwide.
At the moment one of the biggest topics is the introduction of .CN IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names), along with .CN for individuals. At this point in time, these are simply discussions and nothing has yet been defined either by CNNIC nor NeuLevel.

"It was Key-System's first time to be present on the Asian Market and we would like to express our thanks to CNNIC for the well-organised meeting, as well as NeuLevel
from whom we have received outstanding support which we pass on to our customers. The market in China is huge and has great potential, even though different to the
market in Europe or North America. It is essential to understand the market in China / Asia, and it is even more important to understand and respect the culture
within these target markets. The trip to China was informative and the hospitality I experienced was amazing. I returned with many good memories from the Registrar
Meeting and hope to be doing more business with domestic registrars in the near future."
Robert Birkner Key Account Manager, Key-Systems.

.CN Domain Transfers now possible |
Just recently NeuLevel Inc. the exclusive distribution partner of the official .CN Registry (CNNIC) announced that the transfer functionality between NeuLevel Registrars has been enabled, meaning that the registrant of a domain now has the possibility of choosing his personal registrar.
When .CN Domain registrations were introduced many registrants increased their chances of getting the domain they wanted by placing apre-registration hrough different accredited registrars. Now the registrant has the possibility of transfering all of his .CN Domains to one registrar, which allows him to manage his domains in a more efficient manner. The procedure to do a transfer is as follows:
Anybody can transfer a .CN Domain. The only restriction which exists, is that the domain name has been registered for a minimum of 60 days.

.CN Development report of May 03 |
Since the successful introduction of .CN to the global market, CN Domains can be found registered by registrants in more than 111 countries and regions worldwide. Among these a percentage of 86,33% domains registered are from domestic registrants and the remaining 13,67 % were from outside of China.
It is quite amazing, when looking at the distribution in the domestic provinces. Approx: 81% of the domestic registrations are divided between 10 provinces: Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Fujian, Hubei, Liaoning and Shaanxi.
Currently CNNIC, the official Registry for .CN has 30 accredited domestic registrars. The top 4 domestic registrars that led the registration volume in May are:
1.) HiChina Web Solutions Limited (Beijing)
2.) Beijing Xinhai Development Corporations (China DNS)
3.) Xiamen Jingtong Technique Industry Co. Ltd. (China Channel)
4.) China Enterprise ASP Limited (Shenzhen)
According to CNNIC, there are momentarily 50 accredited foreign registrars. From these 50 registrars the German company Key-Systems GmbH is still leading the registration volumes shortly followed by two American Companies.

.CN Transfers |
During the meetings in ICANN-Montreal at which Key-Systems attended we inquired about the possibility of .CN Domain Transfers. Unfortunately this feature is not yet available and the Registry had to postpone the time-schedule due to SARS. Transfers inbetween international CN accredited Registrar should become available within the next two - three months. The procedure will be exactly the same as .BIZ or .US Domain Transfers meaning the the registrant has to obtain the respective Auth.Code from his current regsitrar befoe initiating the transfer through the gaining registrar. The second step will be that the Registry will allow transfers between NeuLevel accredited registrars and CNNIC registrars making the market transparent. More information to follow soon or contact feedback@domains.cn
