I.  General Information:

The internet use within China (population of China is to be estimated at 1.3 Billion inhabitants) has developed explosively over the past months. Several surveys were completed in the cities Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen showing that the internet useability is increasing more than 50% each year. At this point in time 80% of internet users already have an email-address, with email being the most frequently used service in China.

Reasons to register a .CN Domain:
  • > 60% of chinese Websites are beneath a.CN Domain
  • you can provide trust to your customers, by providing an internet presence and showing that your business recognizes the importance of cultural backgrounds
  • in due course it will become more and more difficult to get the proper domain, as with the internet-growth within China more and more domains will be registered.

As you can see from the above figures, the overall development of the Chinese Third-Level-Domains has been amazing over the last year. Especially the large increase, when .CN Domains were released to the international public last year in December 2002 as CNNIC entered into a partnership with NeuLevel Inc. to manage the international registrars.

Altogether China has approx. 94 million Internet Users, where as 30.5% used leased lines, 52.4% dial-up, 6.4% ISDN and 42.8 borad-band connection to actually use the internet.
